The Write School grew out of years of frontline experience in journalism, corporate communications, and language education. Our founder spent years writing for national publications and working at international organisations, interviewing top executives and celebrities, and training executives to face the media.
Alvin Foo
Founder, Principal Trainer & Writer
Alvin Foo is the Founder, Principal Trainer & Writer of The Write School, specialising in communications training, professional writing and English teaching for non-native speakers.
With more than 20 years spanning corporate communications at multinational companies and journalism, he brings a well-rounded perspective to helping senior executives communicate with clarity, confidence and impact.
Alvin's expertise on both sides of the media equation gives him a unique understanding of what journalists need from a story and what organisations need from their spokespeople.
His experience includes:
- Close to 10 years as a finance and sports journalist at The Straits Times, Singapore's main English-language daily newspaper.
- More than 10 years in media relations at Citi and ExxonMobil, working extensively with senior leaders, journalists and other stakeholders.
- Training more than 150 corporate spokespersons at Citi and ExxonMobil in media engagement and communications.
- Writing more than 2,000 bylined articles during his journalism career.
- Co-authoring Heart to Heart with Asian Leaders, published by World Scientific, featuring conversations with 28 prominent leaders from across the region.
Today, Alvin is passionate about helping professionals communicate more effectively. He specialises in equipping senior executives and corporate spokespeople with the skills to communicate with clarity and impact — particularly when engaging with the media or navigating high-pressure and crisis situations.
